There are some health insurance plans which provide coverage for certain dental procedures, and hence people focus their attention on purchasing personal dental insurance. A certain section of the employers can provide their employees with a dental insurance, but some of them do not do the same.

The plans attached to this type of insurance can be basically termed as referral plans.

Here a person has to pay an amount of premium to the company, and he will be provided with a list of dentists, who will give them good amount of discount for undergoing any type of dental procedures. The customer has to pay the full amount of the bill that was incurred for the dental treatment, but the only saving grace is that he will be getting a good amount of discount rates. And hence dental treatment can be deemed affordable through the presence of a personal dental insurance.

There are many other types of personal dental insurance that a person can avail either through his employer or some insurance companies. The most prominent plan that is preferred by people for this kind of insurance is known as the direct reimbursement plan.

Here the insurance company will give the customer a certain percentage of the bill amount incurred for his dental treatment expenses. And the reimbursement, in majority of the cases can be availed for any kind of dental treatment and it does not matter which dentist performed the treatment either. The next plan is known as the allowance plan.

Here the customer will be given allowance for a particular dental treatment, for which the price will already be set by the insurance company. For example, if according to the plan the price of regular cleaning is set at fifty five dollars, and the customer incurs eighty five dollars for the same procedure, then he will just get fifty five dollars from the company and the remaining thirty dollars have to be paid by the customer himself.

There is another plan which is known as preferred provider organization plan. Here the dentists, who are contracted by the insurance companies for this plan, give a certain amount of discount to patients who own this type of personal dental insurance. If a person goes to a dentist who is not part of this plan, then the patient will be not be eligible to get any amount of discount on his bill.

The next plan is known as the capitation plan. Here the dentists, who are contracted by the insurance company for this plan, are given a fixed price per patient and then the patient can avail certain dental treatments without any charge.
